Young Driver Insurance
When applying for motor insurance, your will find that your age and gender will be a key factor in the premiums that are generated - insurance companies may even refuse to cover you simply because of how old you are!
Young drivers fall into a higher risk category for most insurance companies and often find themselves with much higher motor insurance premiums than older drivers. In the UK, there are multiple Motor Insurance companies who specialise in providing insurance for extremely specific sections of the population in as competitive a manner as possible.
Many people try to avoid higher premiums by insuring a car in a parents name and adding a younger driver. Technically this is called "fronting" and it is not recommended. In the worst case, should you do this, a claim could be called invalid meaning that you would not receive a payout and the younger driver could be convicted of driving without insurance.
As a minimum the fine would be £100's and 6 points is generally the basic penalty. For young drivers this could potentially mean the loss of their licence.
A car being used for commuting by a student could be all the evidence an insurer may need to invalidate the policy for fronting.
