The Nissan Micra began its long career in 1982 as direct competition for the Honda City. It has a small engine and fit into the 'supermini' category.

The earlier models can be very cheap for car insurance due to smaller engine sizes and parts affordability.

It has has 2 face-lifts, with the most dramatic being in 2002, which saw the engine selection increase together with the car's size. This became direct competiton for the Vauxhall Corsa and the Ford Fiesta.
